The Starfish Poem
One day an old man was walking down the beach just before dawn. In the distance he saw a young man picking up stranded starfish and throwing them back into the sea. As the old man approached the young man, he asked, "Why do you spend so much energy doing what seems to be a waste of time?" The young man explained that the stranded starfish would die if left in the morning sun. The old man exclaimed, "But there must be thousands of starfish. How can your efforts make any difference?" The young man looked down at the starfish in his hand and as he threw it to safety in the sea, he said," It makes a difference to this one!"
The W. Cary Edwards Foundation offers individuals in New Jersey, who like those Starfish, may not otherwise have the opportunity to avail themselves of a quality education the means to do so at all grade levels.
The Foundation brings schools and people together to improve the educational process for New Jersey’s youth and encourage the development of its future leaders.
Recognizing that quality early childhood education provides the building blocks of learning that lead to future success at higher levels of education, the W. Cary Edwards Foundation awards grants for projects that support early childhood educational curricula and funds scholarships for early childhood education. The Foundation will also provide higher education scholarships enabling New Jersey’s youth to succeed at all educational levels.
